Learning Objectives:
This 2-3hour exercise invites participants to take an enterprising approach to saving a museum which is currently running at a loss due to a decrease in Council funding and visitors. People work in groups to analyse the situation and opportunity using the Concept Canvas and then prepare a pitch to present their ideas to ‘Save the Museum.’
Present the case of a Museum under threat- giving details of activities, visitors and financials (loss-making).
Ask students to map out the situation and opportunities on the Concept Canvas.*
Team working time (15 mins)
Each team will be given some money and the option of investing in EITHER ‘customer feedback’ or ‘expert business advice’. They cannot afford both. They must decide how to use the money.
Team working time (20 mins)
Introduce some ‘bad news’ which they must now factor into their plans. e.g. recession or legal action taken against them.
Team working time (10 mins)
The National Lottery fund has a grant available of £90,000 over three years to promote community cohesion. Ask the students to prepare a 60-second pitch. Provide some guidance on basic pitching kills to support them with this activity.
Team working time (25 mins)
Students pitch their ideas to a panel and receive feedback.
(Specify a time limit)
