Objective:

Bring together graduate entrepreneurs, who are receiving support from their alma mater, to reflect on their entrepreneurial journey, share their experiences and learnings, be inspired by guest speakers who are all young entrepreneurs scaling-up their businesses and possibly find potential business partners/clients/service providers.

Introduction:

The Graduate Enterprise Ensemble brings together graduate entrepreneurs who are receiving support from their alma maters. This event is region specific ie: if in the Midlands, then delegates would be graduate entrepreneurs from that region. Even though the event is region specific, graduate entrepreneurs not from the region can attend.

Activity:

This is a one-day event with a series of guest speakers, ice-breaker activities, and networking opportunities.

Guest speakers: must be young entrepreneurs who have moved beyond the start-up phase and are now scaling up their business and can be considered an “early success story”. The guest speakers are required to share their experiences, key learnings, and provide inspiration to the graduate entrepreneurs to take action and progress their businesses to the scale-up phase. The minimal age difference often means the audience can relate to the speaker.

Ice-breaker activities: any activity that requires the delegates to interact with each other. Recommendations would be for activities that the require the delegates to find out fun facts about each other and then present this to the audience. This always get a reaction and from the delegates. This activity should be run at the beginning of the day.

Networking opportunities: this is usually during the tea and lunch breaks. Also save some time at the end of the day for delegates to stay at the venue and network.

Impact:

The impact was significant as delegates appreciated the opportunity to interact with other entrepreneurs who are on the same journey ie: graduate entrepreneurs receiving support from their alma mater. Delegates were able to share experiences and form new relationships. The event also gives the universities represented by these graduate entrepreneurs the opportunity for their programmes of support to be shared, in an informal way. Delegates can share take aways from the day with their universities and this could lead to new working relationships being established, new ways of support being offered to graduate entrepreneurs.
